March, 25-29, 2009 Film Festival against racism and xenophobia “Open your eyes!”, St. Petersburg

From 25th to 29th of March in the framework of the European week against racism an international Film Festival “Open Your Eyes!” will take place in Saint-Petersburg. A Festival was thought as an independent public forum for discussions and exchange of opinions on possibilities of overcoming the problem of racism and xenophobia in Saint-Petersburg, Russia and Europe. The aim of the Film Festival is – on one hand attract the attention of the public of Saint-Petersburg to the problems of xenophobia and contribute to the strengthening tolerance in the society, on the other – bring together already existing initiatives of the citizens on the ground of opposing racism and xenophobia, and create a solid community able to effectively counteract development of right-wing movement in Saint-Petersburg This year the Festival will take place in one of the biggest alternative movie theatres of the city – “Rodina”. The program of the Festival includes:
  • Run of the contemporary fiction and documentary movies dedicated to the problems of racism and xenophobia
  • Set of discussions with participation of the specially invited experts – well-known human rights activists, journalists, film directors, representatives of the city authorities, NGO activists – organisers and participants of the specific projects on fighting xenophobia from Russia and Europe
  • Exposition of the work of young photographers from different countries devopted to the problem of racial and ethnic intolerance in Saint-Petersburg.Enter to all events of the Film Festival is free of charge.
Festival is organised by All-Russia public organisation “Russian Social Democratic union of Youth” (RSDUY), co-organisers are: public organisation “German-Russian Exchange” and public organisation “Vyhod” («Coming Out»).
